At City iCare we believe that a great education begins with great vision. The Ontario Association of Optometrists recommends that a child’s first eye exam be at six months of age, three years of age, and every year thereafter.
Uncorrected vision or an underlying eye health condition can affect your child’s social, learning, and athletic abilities. Eye care for children differs from that of adults in that children do not always notice their vision is blurry, and therefore they do not report any problems. Our doctors always encourage early detection through yearly eye examinations, beginning at six months of age. Early detection of eye health and vision-related problems is very important to ensure your child does not develop any irreversible vision loss in the future.
Once your child has started school, it is not uncommon for them to experience changes in their vision and frequent eyeglass prescription changes. In the past, if your child’s prescription was found to be progressing at a rapid rate, the only solution was to prescribe stronger glasses. Fortunately, this is no longer the case. Using a treatment regimen of specialized drops and/or highly customizable contact lenses, we are now able to slow down and in some cases stop the progression of your child’s myopia.
Over the past decade, City iCare has developed a reputation for providing fun and informative comprehensive eye health examinations for children of all ages. By maintaining optimal eye health and vision, we can prevent more serious eye conditions from occurring in the future and help your child reach their maximum potential. For your convenience, City iCare has evening and weekend appointments available.
